Rest in Peace, Father Oscar Alonso

Born Feb. 20, 1940; entered Piarist community Aug. 14, 1957; ordained Feb. 17, 1968; died Feb. 16, 2018.

Father Oscar Alonso’s death has cast a shadow over our parish community. He was and is a much-loved priest, who, like Jesus, “went about doing good.”

Father was born Feb. 20, 1940; entered the Piarist community on Aug. 14, 1957; was ordained on Feb. 17, 1968; and was born to eternal life on Feb. 16, 2018.

His efforts to do something beautiful for God will continue to bear much fruit. No task was too onerous or demanding for him; he would simply say, “It is a joy.”

As well as his many engagements with other parishes and Cardinal Gibbons High School (the love of his life), he served our parish for 39 years. His death has left a void in our lives and the lives of various communities. To the Piarist community, we offer our sincere condolences and gratitude for allowing Father to share ministry with us.

Thank you, Father Alonso, and may God grant you the joy and peace of Heaven.

Funeral services for Father Alonso will take place here at Saint Paul on Saturday, Feb. 24, with a viewing from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 p.m. Read Father’s obituary and sign the guest book here.

A.B.C.D. ~ The Cry of the Poor

Last Sunday, we all had the opportunity to reach out to help someone by making a pledge according to our means.

Together, we’re able to educate and evangelize; support struggling parishes and schools; assist in the formation of families and priests; and care for the sick, elderly, immigrant, less fortunate and spiritually poor.

If you missed out on last Sunday’s appeal for the Archbishop’s Charities and Development Drive, please make your pledge today; envelopes are in the pews. Drop yours in the second collection, or mail it to Parish Office.

Or click the PLEDGE button at the top of the website.

Let us respond to the call of this year’s appeal with our sacrificial pledge.

Our parish goal this year is $234,116, as set by the Archbishop’s office. It is an increase of $25,765.31 over last year.
