RCIA Classes Begin Oct. 21

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process by which interested persons gradually become members of the Roman Catholic Church.

RCIA is primarily a journey of faith. It is a restoration of the ancient practice of initiation in the Church. It is focused on conversion, whereby the candidates enter into an extended period of formation and conversion through prayer and reflection on the Gospels. It is also a communal journey in which the Church community ritually celebrates conversion at various points during the journey.

RCIA is not a program but a sacramental process in which candidates are fully initiated into the Catholic faith.

The first session will be held on Monday, October 21, at 7 p.m. in the Chapel. Cradle Catholics who feel the need for updating in understanding the teachings of our Church are invited and most welcome.

Missionary Appeal for Nation’s Poorest Diocese

Archbishop Thomas Wenski’s office has informed us that, as part of the Missionary Cooperation Plan in the Archdiocese of Miami, Father Daniel Kassis of the Diocese of Gallup, New Mexico, will make the appeal at our church on October 5 and 6.

The Gallup Diocese, the poorest diocese in the United States, was created in 1939 to serve the Native Americans in the southwest, They depend on outside assistance for 85 percent of their resources.

The second collection next weekend will be towards this appeal.
